The career that I choose to research was interior design. I choose this because I really like to design spaces and the way things in a room look. The colors, patterns, and the layout of a room have always been of interest to me. When I walk into a room I always think of the possibilities of it and how I could change it. I always have liked the design shows that are on T.V. and I could picture myself doing that.
The duties that I would have in interior design vary a lot. I could be doing anything from designing the layout of the windows, walls, doors, and rooms to decorating the space. I could be doing any type of work from commercial to residential. In interior design there are a lot of different ways to take the career. The job duties are basically to satisfy the customer, make the space accesible, functional, and look good. Also to make the design or decorating of the space(s) appealing to look at and creative. In this career path I could be working with a lot of many different people. I could be working with clients, electricians, carpentars, arcitects, co-workers, and any other people that would be involved in whatever the process was. So, I would be working with a lot of people on any given day. The average schooling consist of 2-4 years. Then there is an apprenticeship that needs to be taken to be able to learn more and that could be anywhere from 1-3 years. To get the license however, you need a total of 6 years of combined schooling and experience, where 2 years must be post secondary education. On average the yearly salary of an interior designer is around $45,000 with the salary fluctuating depending on the path of interior design choosen. The salary fluctuates greatly in both directions.
After doing all of the research on a career in interior design, I can see myself becoming one. It seems like it would be a really fun career to be in. Also, it seems to fit really nicely with what I like to do. I would most likely design and decorate residential spaces though. I really like to decorate spaces and it seems like it would be a perfect fit. In conclusion, the career that I choose was interior design, and after all the research I would still consider it.
